Arsenal plans to overhaul their squad this summer. There are five players who could potentially be released at the end of the season.
Arsenal performed poorly in the 2020/2021 season. Mikel Arteta's team has just been eliminated from the Europa League.
Arsenal are also in danger of failing to finish in European club competition for the first time. They are currently slumped to 9th place in the Premier League.
The Gunners must make big changes in order to compete next season. A number of players reportedly will be released this summer. Anyone?
5 Players to be Released by Arsenal
1. Hector Bellerin
Hector Bellerin is Arsenal's first choice right-back. He has strengthened the Gunners since 2013 ago.
However, Bellerin's appearance seems to have declined lately. As a result, the Spanish player spent more time on the bench.
This season, Bellerin has played in 34 matches in all competitions, scoring 1 goal and 3 assists. The 26-year-old defender is still under contract until June 2023.
2. Calum Chambers
Calum Chambers is not Arsenal's first choice this season. Injuries and inconsistent performance limited his performance.
Chambers has played 17 games in all competitions so far. Of that amount, he managed to score one goal and he assisted.
The 26-year-old has played at right-back in recent matches. Chambers still has the remaining contract until June 2022.
3. David Luiz
David Luiz's performance at the heart of Arsenal's defense is somewhat inconsistent. He only appeared 30 times in all competitions this season.
David Luiz is currently 34 years old. Therefore, the Brazilian defender cannot be Arsenal's long-term project.

David Luiz's contract with Arsenal will end in June. So far there have been no signs the player will sign a new contract at the Emirates Stadium.
4. Alexandre Lacazette
Alexandre Lacazette has strengthened Arsenal for four seasons. He was previously recruited from French club Lyon in 2017.
This season, Lacazette has scored 17 goals in 41 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal. He also managed to record three assists.
Lacazette's contract at Arsenal leaves about one year left. This made Lacazette reportedly included in the sell list in the summer transfer market.
5. Eddie Nketiah
Eddie Nketiah is an original product of the Arsenal academy. However, the 21-year-old striker's performance with the Gunners was not very satisfying.
Nketiah has not been the main choice of coach Mikel Arteta this season. He appeared 17 times in the Premier League scoring two goals.
Nketiah's contract with Arsenal will expire on June 30, 2022. The player is reportedly going to be sold by the Gunners.
